Fans Suit Up with NFL Stars at the 2011 Charles Tillman Meijer Celebrity Football Championship
April 15th, 2011
Chicago, IL — For the 5th consecutive year, Meijer is giving their customers an opportunity to suit up next to their favorite NFL players and compete in the Charles Tillman Meijer Celebrity Football Championship on June 18, 2011, which is known as “the ultimate flag football experience.” In addition to rubbing shoulders with celebrity athletes, a year’s worth of bragging rights and a championship trophy are up for grabs! The official sponsor of the event, Meijer, is sponsoring a team of eight that will hit the field running with their celebrity NFL quarterback. Customers are encouraged to attend and support the Meijer-sponsored team while enjoying a little old-fashioned flag football. In addition to Meijer, the other companies that are supporting the event are Miller Lite, Omni Chicago Hotel, and Navistar Financial. Those interested in attending the Charles Tillman Celebrity Football Championship can pick up free tickets at any Chicagoland Meijer location anytime between May 9 and June 18, 2011.
On June 18, 2011, all fourteen teams will compete for the championship title of the Charles Tillman Celebrity Football Challenge title at Lake Zurich High School, located at 300 Church Street, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Charles Tillman Cornerstone Foundation, whose mission is to provide opportunities and resources to children or their families who are in need. NFL players will be on sight to meet and greet with fans and sign autographs. Children of all ages can visit the Cornerstone Fan Zone, which will have a variety of interactive games and activities. The Cornerstone Foundation will be on site with giveaways for attendees, including an iPod Touch, among other great prizes.
The Charles Tillman Cornerstone Foundation was founded by Chicago Bears Defensive Back Charles Tillman to benefit families in need. Initially, the Foundation’s focus was on education, but shifted when Tillman’s three-month old daughter Tiana was diagnosed with life-threatening cardiomyopathy in 2008, which resulted in a heart failure and a heart transplant just three months later. Today, Tiana is three years old, happy and healthy. The Foundation now provides support to those in similar circumstances, enriching lives by providing needed resources to families of children with chronically and critically ill children. The Cornerstone Foundation regularly partners with sponsors to raise money through events such as the Charles Tillman Meijer Celebrity Football Championship.
